Fall festival

Autumn was in full color when the children of Sunshine Kids celebrated this year's autumn festival. Days before, everyone had been busy preparing, collecting, and talking about nature's treasures. The aim was to show the children how diverse, sensory, and vibrant this season is.

Each child proudly brought a basket full of seasonal fruit and vegetables from their own garden or from the market. Together, they unpacked the baskets, marveled at the different shapes and colors, and thought about where the individual fruits actually grow. Then they smelled, felt, and, of course, tasted them.
This allowed the children to learn that learning is most successful when all the senses are involved: they smelled fragrant apples, felt rough pumpkin skins, and tasted the sweetness of fresh pears. These sensory experiences promote perception, language development, and curiosity —and are also great fun.

One of the highlights of the festival was the trip to the farm. There, the children were able to marvel at a tractor with a plow and learn from the farmer how the machine loosens the soil to prepare the field for the next sowing. The children listened with great interest as they were told how grain is cleaned and processed before it is later turned into bread or cereal.
Of course, there was also time for discovery: the children busily collected chestnuts on the farm until their bags were overflowing. Along the way, they learned how important natural materials are for playing and crafting. At the end of the day, they enjoyed a well-deserved snack of hot dogs in buns – which tasted especially good after a day full of adventure.

The next day, the fall festival continued at the daycare center: the children worked together to prepare a delicious fall soup using fresh potatoes, pumpkins, and carrots. Everyone helped out, eagerly peeling, cutting, and stirring. In the process, the children not only learned how to use kitchen tools properly, but also learned patience, teamwork, and responsibility.
Once everything had been cooked and puréed, everyone enjoyed tasting it during lunch together. Many children proudly declared, "We made this all by ourselves!" – a real sense of achievement that boosted their self-confidence and enjoyment of healthy food.

The autumn festival showed once again how valuable it is to give children direct experiences of nature and everyday life. They feel, smell, taste, and understand the world with all their senses—and that's exactly how learning stays alive.
